Apartment Therapy tested all West Elm sofas in-store to find the best models for various needs, from work to lounging. The results highlight top picks for different lifestyles, based on comfort, style, and functionality.
Apartment Therapy’s editors tested every sofa available at two West Elm locations in New York City to identify the best options for different lifestyles and preferences. This comprehensive in-store evaluation provides consumers with expert-backed recommendations for choosing the right sofa for their home.
To determine the best West Elm sofas, the editors evaluated each model based on six criteria: overall sit, seat firmness, customizability, napping suitability, multifunctionality, and appearance. This process involved sitting, lying, and assessing comfort and style, with a focus on how each sofa supports different activities and spaces.
The testing covered a range of models, including sectionals, loveseats, and sleepers, with the goal of matching each sofa to specific needs such as work-from-home comfort, lounging, or guest accommodations. The editors revisited the showrooms multiple times to ensure they captured the latest models and configurations available.
Key findings include the Axel Leather Sofa, praised for its supportive, upright posture ideal for working from home, and the Harmony Sofa, noted for its plush comfort suitable for lounging and naps. Each top pick was selected based on how well it met the criteria and its suitability for particular lifestyles.
Why In-Store Testing Offers Reliable Sofa Recommendations
This testing provides consumers with expert, firsthand insights into sofa comfort, style, and functionality, helping them make informed decisions. It also highlights how different models cater to specific needs, such as work, relaxation, or hosting guests, which is valuable given the broad West Elm selection. Additionally, the evaluation focused on in-store models, and online-only or new arrivals may have different features or quality levels that are not yet fully assessed.
